Journalist and Political Commentator
Mr. Akyol is a commentator on Turkish politics, especially on issues relating to religion and public life in Turkey. He is a graduate of the Istanbul Nisantasi British High School and the International Relations Department of the Bosphorus University. He received his master's degree on late Ottoman history from the same university.
Since 2002, he has been working as a commentator in the Turkish media. He is currently a columnist for Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey's foremost English-language daily. He also writes a regular column for the Turkish national daily.
His articles have also appeared in other publications such as Newsweek, Foreign Affairs, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune, The American Interest, First Things, The Weekly Standard, The Washington Times, The American Enterprise Magazine, National Review Online, The Forward, and other publications.
Akyol has a book in Turkish, "Rethinking the Kurdish Question: What Went Wrong? What Next?" He is currently working on a book in English, "An Islamic Case for Freedom," which will be published by W.W. Norton later this year.
