Dogan Bermek

President, AVF Federation of Alevi Foundations


Mr. Bermek has served as president since the establishment of the Federation of Alevi Foundations in Turkey in 2005.

Born in Ankara, Turkey, in 1948, he received a bachelor's degree in architecture in 1971 and his M.B.A. in 1976. He is married with two children. He is fluent in English.

His professional career includes serving as an assistant in the Academy of Architecture and Engineering in Ankara from 1971 to 1973; a lecturer at the academy from 1974 to 1976; a project manager for Industrial Consultants., Inc., from 1974 to 1982; a partner with the international traders Ovalar-Capex, Inc., from 1982 to 1987; and president of Metals, Minerals and Carbon Trading, Inc., from 1987-2002. He retired in 2002.

He has been a member of the Turkish Folk Sciences Association since 1965. He is a founder of the Turkish Foundation for Education of Gifted Children and served as its president from 1992 to 1995. He is also a founder of the CEM Foundation, a major Alevi organization in Turkey. He currently serves as CEM's representative to the Federation of Alevi Foundations.
