One-Year Memorial Service for Nicholas J. Bouras to be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, NJ, December 21

The one year Memorial Service for our beloved National Vice-Commander, Nicholas J. Bouras, Archon Depoutatos, who fell asleep in the Lord, December 22, 2013, will be led by His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey, on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road, Westfield, New Jersey. The Divine Liturgy will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the Memorial Service. A reception in memory of Mr. Bouras will be held in the Bouras Center of Holy Trinity following the Memorial Service. As Ankara prepares to receive Pope Francis on Nov. 28-30, Turkish media have noted with raised eyebrows that Turkish affairs do not appear to be uppermost on the pope’s mind. “It was conspicuous that the pope chose to speak of the ‘Ecumenical Patriarchate’ and ‘Constantinople’ rather than of Turkey,” when referring to the destination of his upcoming visit, the daily Milliyet pointed out huffily. Breitbart reports on '90 percent of Orthodox Christians in Iraq have been displaced'

The Islamic State's (ISIS/ISIL) invasion of Iraq has left 90% of the nation's Orthodox Christians displaced, fleeing religious persecution and ethnic cleansing, according to Ghattas Hazim, Greek Orthodox Bishop for Baghdad, Kuwait, and their surroundings, who must now travel into that territory and unite his congregation. In an interview with Al Monitor, Hazim confirmed that current estimates of Christians belonging to his congregation in Iraq have reduced dramatically, with 90% of them being displaced from their homes. Islamic State terrorism and religious persecution have forced some to flee; others have begun to move, expecting their fate to be similar to those already in ISIS-conquered territory. Full Text
