Texas legislators adopt resolutions supporting religious freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate

Two religious freedom resolutions have recently been adopted in the Texas legislature calling for Turkey to uphold and safeguard the religious freedom of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. These resolutions specifically call for the Turkish government to recognize the ecumenical status of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, to respect its rights to property and to ecclesiastic succession, and to grant it the right to train its clergy--including by opening the Theological Seminary at Halki. New York State Legislature signs letters urging religious freedom in Turkey

In an exceptional action, both chambers of the New York State Legislature have signed letters urging the government of a foreign country to practice greater religious tolerance within its borders. The documents were presented yesterday to Archbishop Demetrios of America, spiritual leader of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, by the Orthodox legislators who spearheaded the signature drive, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, Senator Mike Gianaris and Assemblywomen Aravella Simotas and Nicole Malliotakis. USCIRF Identifies World’s Worst Religious Freedom Violators: Turkey remains on ‘Watch List’

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) announced its 2011 recommendations to Congress, the White House, and the State Department, which included keeping Turkey on its "Watch List" as one of the most serious offenders of freedom of religion towards non-Muslim communities. 'Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer' to air on PBS television stations, April 23-27

“Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer” a new book and documentary feature film on the prayer, with an unprecedented inner-view of Orthodox monasticism has an abbreviated public TV version playing on over 218 PBS TV stations this week, and especially for Pascha. The national television broadcasts are partially funded by the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The program is distributed by American Public Television. New York State Legislators support Religious Freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate

In a display of overwhelming support for religious freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate, all fifty (50) members of the New York State Senate and one hundred and forty-four (144) members of the New York State Assembly signed letters calling for the Turkish Government to cease its discrimination of the Holy See.
