2018 Annual Archon Weekend Schedule of Events and Information, Oct. 26-28

The annual Archon Weekend and Assembly of the Order of Saint Andrew will be held October 26-28 at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City.

The weekend will focus on our efforts to secure religious freedom for the Mother Church of Constantinople and welcome the 2018 Class of Archons. The 2018 Athenagoras Human Rights Award will be presented to Father Alexander and Presbytera Xanthi Karloutsos, who have been a true partnership and team well-known throughout the Archdiocese and the Orthodox World. Father Alex and Presbytera Xanthi have served with unparalleled distinction the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, their beloved Dormition Church of the Hamptons and innumerable philanthropic endeavors in the international community.  Indeed, they are most worthy recipients of the 2018 Athenagoras Human Rights Award.

The weekend begins Friday evening, with the Nicholas J. Bouras Award for Extraordinary Archon Stewardship at the annual Award Presentation and Dinner Dance that will recognize the many accomplishments of 2018 Award Recipient Archon George E. Safiol within the Church, the business world, the military and in the field of higher education. The event will be held at the New York Athletic Club (180 Central Park S., New York, NY 10019).

Joint Meeting of National Council and Regional Commanders

Private meeting with members of the National Council and Regional Commanders who will offer an overview and briefing of regional Archon activities in their respective Metropolis

Nicholas J. Bouras Award For Extraordinary Archon Stewardship Award Presentation and Dinner Dance
7:00PM-11:00PM [New York Athletic Club]

All Archons, Archons-elect and family members are invited as we begin the evening with a cocktail reception, followed by an elegant dinner and formal presentation of the Nicholas J. Bouras Award for Extraordinary Archon Stewardship to George E. Safiol, Archon Archiophylax by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios Geron of America, Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the National Commander. After the presentation program, the evening concludes with festive dancing and fellowship where Archons, Archons-elect and their families meet and socialize within the Archon family.

The Award is named after the late National Vice Commander Nicholas J. Bouras, Archon Depoutatos, who had demonstrated during his lifetime remarkable leadership as a faithful son of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and extraordinary Archon stewardship of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

Orientation Breakfast for Archons-elect and their spouses
8:30AM-9:30AM [New York Hilton Midtown, Rendezvous Trianon & Petit Trianon Room, 3rd Floor]

Archons-elect and their spouses will gather for an orientation presentation by the National Commander who will offer a multi-media program reviewing the awesome responsibilities and roles of Archons, who are advocates of religious freedom and serve as Defenders of the Faith.

Archon General Assembly
9:30AM-12:30PM [New York Hilton Midtown, Trianon Ballroom, 3rd Floor]

All Archons, Archons-elect and spouses are expected to attend the annual meeting to discuss the vision and strategy to secure religious freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Specific religious freedom programing, formal committee reports and other items of concern regarding the well-being of the Ecumenical Patriarchate will be presented thereby offering an open Archon forum for deliberation. Archons-elect will be introduced to Archbishop Demetrios and a group photo of the Archon Class of 2018 will be taken.

Archon Agape Luncheon
12:30PM-1:30PM [New York Hilton Midtown, Mercury Suite, 3rd Floor]

All Archons, Archons-elect and spouses are invited to attend our annual Agape Luncheon which will feature Her Royal Highness Princess Tatiana of Greece and Denmark.

Archon Boot Camp
1:30PM-2:30PM [New York Hilton Midtown, Nassau Suite, 2nd Floor]

Chairman John Zavitsanos and Archon Committee members will address Archons-elect as they are about to assume the serious responsibility to defend the Holy Mother Church.

Athenagoras Human Rights Award Banquet
6:00PM-10:00PM [New York Hilton Midtown, Grand Ballroom, 3rd Floor]

The black-tie gala is the Archon premier event and fundraiser which begins with a one-hour cocktail reception, followed by the introduction of the dais and the presentation of the 2018 Athenagoras Human Rights Award to Father Alexander and Presbytera Xanthi Karloutsos.

Matins and Procession of Archons and Archons-Elect
9:00AM [Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Cathedral Undercroft]

Archons and Archons-elect will assemble in Cathedral undercroft for a group portrait and additional instructions. Then all Archons will process into the Cathedral together for Matins.

Archiepiscopal Divine Liturgy and Investiture of the Class of 2018
10:00AM [Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity]

The morning begins with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy by Archbishop Demetrios with Metropolitans and assisted by Bishops and visiting Clergy. At the conclusion of the service, new Archons will be invested and presented with their Offikia and Cross of Saint Andrew.

Archon Fellowship Reception
1:00PM [Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Cathedral Center Ballroom]

Following Divine Liturgy and the Investiture of the Class of 2018 Archons, an Archon Fellowship Reception of Thanksgiving hosted by the Order of Saint Andrew is offered in the adjacent Cathedral Center ballroom.
