Events Commemorating the Civil Rights Movement and Archbishop Iakovos in New York

New York, NY – As you know, 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the March on Selma. It also marks the 10th anniversary of the repose of Archbishop Iakovos. To help commemorate both events, the following resources and activities (free of charge and open to the public) are being hosted by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America:

  1. The Department of Inter-Orthodox, Ecumenical, and Interfaith Relations has launched a website that highlights the role of our Archdiocese in the Civil Rights Movement: civilrights.goarch.org
  2. There will be a lecture offered at Holy Trinity Cathedral, NYC on Thursday, March 12, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The presentation will focus on Archbishop Iakovos and the Civil Rights Movement. The lecture will be recorded and made available online shortly after the presentation is made.
  3. There is an event scheduled at the United Nations on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 1:15 – 2:30 PM that will be co-sponsored by the United States of America, the European Union, and the Archdiocese. If you plan on attending, you must register at http://bit.ly/1C50DgQ. If you do not register, you will be denied access to the UN.
