Let us never forget... Martyrdom of Ecumenical Patriarch Gregory V, Easter 1821

On the 192nd observance of the anniversary of the martyrdom of Ecumenical Patriarch Gregory V, and on the anniversary of the repose of Archbishop Iakovos of blessed memory, let all Archons of the Great Church of Christ in America, under the leadership of the Exarch Archbishop Demetrios, give pause and reflect upon the extraordinary martyria and diakonia of our own spiritual father, His All-Holiness BARTHOLOMEW.

May the sealed gate at the Phanar, where GREGORY V was hanged on Easter 1821 fully vested as Ecumenical Patriarch, serve as a stark reminder that the ultimate sacrifice may be made by our spiritual fathers who serve our Lord and Savior.

In the Service of the Ecumenical Patriarchate,
